South Central Skill-Building Workshop

Two different workshops are available in your region. You may attend one 3-hour workshop (half day) or both 3-hour workshops (full day) depending on your schedule and preference. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Workshop A: Building Communities and Cross-Cultural Conflict Transformation The Building Communities and Cross-Cultural Conflict Transformation workshop will provide an opportunity for participants to expand their definitions to encompass other dimensions such as cultural customs/traditions, linguistics, socio-economics, urban/suburban/rural. From awareness of the broad dimensions of diversity, the session will create opportunities for participants to explore more about themselves and others, particularly in terms of issues such as assumptions and stereotypes, how we perceive others and how we are perceived by others. Community-based organizations will become aware of the facets of diversity beyond race, gender, and ethnicity in engaging disparately affected groups. Participants in the Building Communities and Cross-Cultural Conflict Transformation workshop will have the opportunity to learn about: 
  • Cultural awareness
  • Prejudice and racism
  • Ethnic, racial and other identity groups based on physical/mental abilities, sexual orientation, age, and gender.
  • Resolving conflict and achieving a win-win
Workshop B: Fundamentals of Evaluation The Fundamentals of Evaluation workshop is an interactive workshop in which participants learn the core concepts of evaluation. The information provided will help participants understand the importance of evaluating a program, what to expect from their evaluation efforts and what is involved in program evaluation from planning to reporting results. Through the use of visual aids, group discussion, case studies and practical activities the workshop prepares participants to develop their own evaluation plans. Participants in the Fundamentals of Evaluations workshop will have the opportunity to learn about:
  • Evaluation: process vs. outcome
  • Logic model development
  • Use of evaluation in programs
  • Development of an evaluation plan
  • Organizational Evaluations: externally and internally (measuring program successes vs. role of evaluation in attracting funders and selecting partners)
